1 Kings 12:6–8

¹²With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding.

⁷I said, Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.

²And these were the princes which he had; Azariah the son of Zadok the priest,

²⁰¶ Then said Absalom to Ahithophel, Give counsel among you what we shall do.

²And said unto Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we beseech thee, our supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us unto the Lord thy God, even for all this remnant; (for we are left but a few of many, as thine eyes do behold us:)

³That the Lord thy God may shew us the way wherein we may walk, and the thing that we may do.

⁴Then Jeremiah the prophet said unto them, I have heard you; behold, I will pray unto the Lord your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass, that whatsoever thing the Lord shall answer you, I will declare it unto you; I will keep nothing back from you.

⁵Then they said to Jeremiah, The Lord be a true and faithful witness between us, if we do not even according to all things for the which the Lord thy God shall send thee to us.

^2‖And said vnto Ieremiah the prophet, Let, we beseech thee, our supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for vs vnto the LORD thy God, euen for all this remnant (for we are left but a few of many, as thine eies do behold vs)

³That the LORD thy God may shew vs the way wherein we may walke, and the thing that we may doe.

⁴Then Ieremiah the prophet sayd vnto them, I haue heard you; behold, I will pray vnto the LORD your God, according to your words, and it shall come to passe that whatsoeuer thing the LORD shall answere you, I will declare it vnto you: I will keepe nothing backe from you.

⁵Then they sayd to Ieremiah, The LORD be a true and faithfull witnesse betweene vs, if we doe not, euen according to all things for the which the LORD thy God shall send thee to vs.

²Then spake Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men, saying unto Jeremiah, Thou speakest falsely: the Lord our God hath not sent thee to say, Go not into Egypt to sojourn there:

¹⁰Thine own friend, and thy father’s friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother’s house in the day of thy calamity: for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.

¹A SOFT answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

¹³And the king answered the people roughly, and forsook the old men’s counsel that they gave him;

⁶¶ And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people?

⁷And they spake unto him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever.

⁶¶ And king Rehoboam tooke counsel with the old men that had stood before Solomon his father, while hee yet liued, saying, What counsell giue ye me, to returne answere to this people?

⁷And they spake vnto him, saying, If thou bee kinde to this people, and please them, and speake good words to them, they will be thy seruants for euer.

³And Absalom said unto him, See, thy matters are good and right; but there is no man deputed of the king to hear thee.

⁴Absalom said moreover, Oh that I were made judge in the land, that every man which hath any suit or cause might come unto me, and I would do him justice!

⁵And it was so, that when any man came nigh to him to do him obeisance, he put forth his hand, and took him, and kissed him.

⁶And on this manner did Absalom to all Israel that came to the king for judgment: so Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.

³And Absalom said vnto him, See, thy matters are good & right, but there is ^‖no man deputed of the king to heare thee.

⁴Absalom said moreouer, Oh that I were made Iudge in the land, that euery man which hath any suit or cause, might come vnto me, and I would do him iustice.

⁵And it was so, that when any man came nigh to him, to doe him obeisance, he put foorth his hand, and tooke him, and kissed him.

⁶And on this maner did Absalom to all Israel, that came to the King for iudgement: so Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.

⁴If the spirit of the ruler rise up against thee, leave not thy place; for yielding pacifieth great offences.

⁴³But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister:

⁷But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

⁸And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

⁹Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

¹⁰That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

¹¹And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

⁷But made himselfe of no reputation, and tooke vpon him the forme of a seruant, and was made in the ^‖likenesse of men.

⁸And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himselfe, and became obedient vnto death, euen the death of the Crosse.

⁹Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and giuen him a Name which is aboue euery name:

¹⁰That at the Name of Iesus euery knee should bow, of things in heauen, and things in earth, and things vnder the earth:

¹¹And that euery tongue should confesse, that Iesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

¹³And the Lord answered the angel that talked with me with good words and comfortable words.

²⁰Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.

⁸But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that stood before him.

¹⁵Wherefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against Amaziah, and he sent unto him a prophet, which said unto him, Why hast thou sought after the gods of the people, which could not deliver their own people out of thine hand?

¹⁶And it came to pass, as he talked with him, that the king said unto him, Art thou made of the king’s counsel? forbear; why shouldest thou be smitten? Then the prophet forbare, and said, I know that God hath determined to destroy thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not hearkened unto my counsel.

¹⁵Wherfore the anger of the LORD was kindled against Amaziah, and hee sent vnto him a Prophet, which said vnto him, Why hast thou sought after the gods of the people, which could not deliuer their owne people out of thine hand?

¹⁶And it came to passe as hee talked with him, that the king said vnto him, Art thou made of the Kings counsell? forbeare; why shouldest thou be smitten? Then the Prophet forbare, and said, I know that God hath ^†determined to destroy thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not hearkened vnto my counsell.

²A wise man’s heart is at his right hand; but a fool’s heart at his left.

³Yea also, when he that is a fool walketh by the way, his wisdom faileth him, and he saith to every one that he is a fool.

²A wise mans heart is at his right hand: but a fooles heart at his left.

^3†Yea also when hee that is a foole walketh by the way, his wisedome faileth him, and hee saith to euery one that he is a foole.

²To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;

³To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;

⁴To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.

⁵A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

²To knowe wisedome and instruction, to perceiue the words of vnderstanding,

³To receiue the instruction of wisdome, iustice, and iudgement & ^†equitie,

⁴To giue subtiltie to the simple, to the yong man knowledge and ^‖discretion.

⁵A wise man wil heare, and wil increase learning: and a man of vnderstanding shall attaine vnto wise counsels:

²⁵But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:

¹²As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.

¹² As an eare-ring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprouer vpon an obedient eare.
