Isaiah 5:20–21

¹⁵He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the Lord.

^15*He that iustifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the iust: euen they both are abomination to the LORD.

¹THIS know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

²For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

³Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

⁴Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

⁵Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

¹¶ This know also, that in the last dayes perillous times shall come.

²For men shall bee louers of their owne selues, couetous, boasters, proude, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, vnthankfull, vnholy,

³Without naturall affection, trucebreakers, ^‖false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

⁴Traitours, heady, high minded, louers of pleasures more then louers of God,

⁵Hauing a forme of godlinesse, but denying the power thereof: from such turne away.

¹⁵And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.

¹⁷¶ Ye have wearied the Lord with your words. Yet ye say, Wherein have we wearied him? When ye say, Every one that doeth evil is good in the sight of the Lord, and he delighteth in them; or, Where is the God of judgment?

¹⁷¶ Ye haue wearied the LORD with your words: yet ye say, Wherein haue we wearied him? when ye say, Euery one that doeth euill, is good in the sight of the LORD, and he delighteth in them, or where is the God of iudgement?

¹²They change the night into day: the light is short because of darkness.

²²The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.

²³But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!

¹BUT there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

¹⁸For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.

¹⁹While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.

⁷Ye who turn judgment to wormwood, and leave off righteousness in the earth,

³⁴The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.

³⁵Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.

¹⁵And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are set up; yea, they that tempt God are even delivered.

³But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?

⁴For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.

⁵But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;

⁶And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.

³But hee answered, and said vnto them, Why doe you also transgresse the Commandement of God by your tradition?

⁴For God commaunded, saying, ^*Honour thy father and mother: And ^*hee that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.

⁵But yee say, Whosoeuer shall say to his father or his mother, ^* It is a gift by whatsoeuer thou mightest bee profited by me,

⁶And honour not his father or his mother, hee shall be free. Thus haue yee made the Commaundement of God of none effect by your tradition.

¹⁶Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor!

¹⁷Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?

¹⁸And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty.

²⁰Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.

²¹And whoso shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.

²²And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.

²³Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

²⁰Who so therefore shall sweare by the Altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.

²¹And who so shall sweare by the Temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.

²²And he that shall sweare by heauen, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.

²³Woe vnto you Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; ^*for yee pay tithe of mint, and annise, and cummine, and haue omitted the weightier matters of the Law, iudgement, mercie and faith: these ought ye to haue done, and not to leaue the other vndone.

¹⁸Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.

¹⁹For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.

²⁰And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.

¹⁸Let no man deceiue himselfe: If any man among you seemeth to bee wise in this world, let him become a foole, that he may be wise.

¹⁹For the wisedome of this world is foolishnesse with God: for it is written, ^*Hee taketh the wise in their owne craftinesse.

²⁰And againe, ^*The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vaine.

⁷¶ Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.

⁷¶ ^*Be not wise in thine owne eyes: feare the LORD, and depart from euill.

¹⁶Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.

¹²Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.

¹⁶The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.

¹²For vain man would be wise, though man be born like a wild ass’s colt.

⁴¹Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.

⁴¹Iesus saide vnto them, If yee were blind, ye should haue no sinne: but now ye say, We see, therfore your sinne remaineth.

²²Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

²⁵For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
