John 6:67–68

⁷⁰Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?

⁷⁰Iesus answered them, Haue not I chosen you twelue, and one of you is a deuill?

²⁵¶ And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them,

²⁶If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

²⁷And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

²⁸For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?

²⁹Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,

³⁰Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.

³¹Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?

³²Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.

³³So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

²⁵¶ And there went great multitudes with him: and hee turned, and said vnto them,

²⁷And whosoeuer doeth not beare his crosse, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

²⁸For which of you intending to build a towre, sitteth not downe first, and counteth the cost, whether he haue sufficient to finish it?

³⁰Saying, This man beganne to build, and was not able to finish.

³¹Or what king going to make war against another king, sitteth not downe first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand, to meete him that commeth against him with twentie thousand?

³²Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, hee sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.

³³So likewise, whosoeuer he be of you, that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

¹¹And Naomi said, Turn again, my daughters: why will ye go with me? are there yet any more sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands?

¹²Turn again, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have an husband. If I should say, I have hope, if I should have an husband also to night, and should also bear sons;

¹³Would ye tarry for them till they were grown? would ye stay for them from having husbands? nay, my daughters; for it grieveth me much for your sakes that the hand of the Lord is gone out against me.

¹⁴And they lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother in law; but Ruth clave unto her.

¹⁵And she said, Behold, thy sister in law is gone back unto her people, and unto her gods: return thou after thy sister in law.

¹⁶And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:

¹⁷Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the Lord do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.

¹⁸When she saw that she was stedfastly minded to go with her, then she left speaking unto her.

¹¹And Naomi said, Turne againe, my daughters: why will you goe with mee? Are there yet any moe sonnes in my wombe, that they may be your husbands?

¹²Turne againe, my daughters, go your way, for I am too old to haue an husband: if I should say, I haue hope, if I should ^‖haue a husband also to night, and should also beare sonnes:

¹³Would ye ^†tary for them till they were growen? would ye stay for them from hauing husbands? nay my daughters: for ^†it grieueth me much for your sakes, that the hand of the LORD is gone out against me.

¹⁴And they lift vp their voyce, and wept againe: and Orpah kissed her mother in law, but Ruth claue vnto her.

¹⁵And she said, Behold, thy sister in law is gone backe vnto her people, and vnto her gods: returne thou after thy sister in law.

¹⁶And Ruth said, ^‖Intreate mee not to leaue thee, or to returne from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will goe; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:

¹⁷Where thou diest, wil I die, and there will I bee buried: the LORD doe so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.

¹⁸When shee sawe that shee ^†was stedfastly minded to goe with her, then shee left speaking vnto her.

¹⁵And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

¹⁶And the people answered and said, God forbid that we should forsake the Lord, to serve other gods;

¹⁷For the Lord our God, he it is that brought us up and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, and which did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way wherein we went, and among all the people through whom we passed:

¹⁸And the Lord drave out from before us all the people, even the Amorites which dwelt in the land: therefore will we also serve the Lord; for he is our God.

¹⁹And Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve the Lord: for he is an holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins.

²⁰If ye forsake the Lord, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you hurt, and consume you, after that he hath done you good.

²¹And the people said unto Joshua, Nay; but we will serve the Lord.

²²And Joshua said unto the people, Ye are witnesses against yourselves that ye have chosen you the Lord, to serve him. And they said, We are witnesses.

¹⁵And if it seeme euill vnto you to serue the LORD, choose you this day whome you will serue, whether the gods which your fathers serued that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose lande ye dwell: but as for mee and my house, we will serue the LORD.

¹⁶And the people answered and said, God forbid that wee should forsake the LORD, to serue other gods.

¹⁷For the LORD our God, he it is that brought vs vp and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, & which did those great signes in our sight, and preserued vs in all the way wherein we went, and among all the people through whom we passed.

¹⁸And the LORD draue out from before vs all the people, euen the Amorites which dwelt in the land: therefore will we also serue the LORD, for he is our God.

¹⁹And Ioshua said vnto the people, Ye cannot serue the LORD: for hee is an holy God: he is a ielous God, he will not forgiue your transgressions nor your sinnes.

²⁰If yee forsake the LORD, and serue strange gods, ^*then he will turne, and doe you hurt, and consume you, after that he hath done you good.

²¹And the people said vnto Ioshua, Nay, but we will serue the LORD.

²²And Ioshua said vnto the people, Yee are witnesses against your selues, that yee haue chosen you the LORD, to serue him. And they said, We are witnesses.

¹⁹¶ Then said the king to Ittai the Gittite, Wherefore goest thou also with us? return to thy place, and abide with the king: for thou art a stranger, and also an exile.

²⁰Whereas thou camest but yesterday, should I this day make thee go up and down with us? seeing I go whither I may, return thou, and take back thy brethren: mercy and truth be with thee.

¹⁹¶ Then said the king to Ittai the Gittite, Wherefore goest thou also with vs? Returne to thy place, and abide with the King: for thou art a stranger, and also an exile.

²⁰Whereas thou camest but yesterday, should I this day ^†make thee goe vp and downe with vs? Seeing I goe whither I may, returne thou, and take backe thy brethren: mercie and trueth be with thee.

²Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;

²Now the names of the twelue Apostles are these: The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, Iames the sonne of Zebedee, and Iohn his brother:

²⁵Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.

²⁵Whom haue I in heauen but thee? and there is none vpon earth that I desire besides thee.

²⁴Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

²⁴Uerily, verily I say vnto you, Hee that heareth my word, & beleeueth on him that sent mee, hath euerlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation: but is passed from death vnto life.

¹¹And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

¹²He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

¹³These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

¹¹And this is the record, that God hath giuen to vs eternall life, and this life is in his Sonne.

¹²Hee that hath the Sonne, hath life; and hee that hath not the Sonne, hath not life.

¹³These things haue I written vnto you that beleeue on the Name of the Sonne of God, that ye may know, that ye haue eternall life, and that yee may beleeue on the Name of the Sonne of God.

¹²Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

¹²Neither is there saluation in any other: for there is none other name vnder heauen giuen among men whereby we must be saued.

²⁰Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.

¹⁶And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

³⁸This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us:

⁴⁰And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

⁴⁰And this is the will of him that sent me, that euery one which seeth the Sonne, and beleeueth on him, may haue euerlasting life: and I will raise him vp at the last day.

³⁹¶ Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

⁴⁰And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.

⁸For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.

⁸For I haue giuen vnto them the words which thou gauest me, and they haue receiued them, ^*and haue knowen surely that I came out from thee, and they haue beleeued that thou didst send me.
