Matthew 11:9–10

⁷⁶And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;

⁷⁶And thou childe shalt bee called the Prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt goe before the face of the Lord to prepare his wayes.

⁵And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.

⁵And when he would haue put him to death, hee feared the multitude, ^*because they counted him as a Prophet.

¹⁵For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb.

¹⁶And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.

¹⁷And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.

¹⁵For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shal drinke neither wine, nor strong drinke, and he shall bee filled with the holy Ghost, euen from his mothers wombe.

^16*And many of the children of Israel shall hee turne to the Lord their God.

¹⁷And hee shall goe before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turne the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient ^‖to the wisedome of the iust, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.

¹¹¶ And they asked him, saying, Why say the scribes that Elias must first come?

¹²And he answered and told them, Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought.

¹³But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him.

¹¹¶ And they asked him, saying, Why say the Scribes that Elias must first come?

¹²And he answered, and told them, Elias verely commeth first, and restoreth al things, and ^*how it is written of the Sonne of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought.

¹³But I say vnto you, that Elias is indeed come, and they haue done vnto him whatsoeuer they listed, as it is written of him.

¹²But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.

¹³Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.

²⁴And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one thing, which if ye tell me, I in like wise will tell you by what authority I do these things.

²⁵The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or of men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why did ye not then believe him?

²⁶But if we shall say, Of men; we fear the people; for all hold John as a prophet.

²⁴And Iesus answered, and said vnto them, I also will aske you one thing, which if ye tell me, I in like wise will tell you by what authoritie I doe these things.

²⁵The baptisme of Iohn, whence was it? from heauen, or of men? and they reasoned with themselues saying, If we shall say, From heauen, hee will say vnto vs, Why did ye not then beleeue him?

²⁶But if we shall say, Of men, we feare the people, ^*for all hold Iohn as a Prophet.

¹³For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.

¹⁴And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.

¹³For all the Prophets, and the Law prophecied vntill Iohn.

¹⁴And if ye wil receiue it, this is ^*Elias which was for to come.

¹BEHOLD, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the Lord of hosts.

¹¶ ^*Beholde, I will send my messenger, and he shal prepare the way before mee: and the LORD whom ye seeke, shall suddenly come to his Temple: euen ye messenger of the Couenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.

³¶ The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

³¶ ^*The voyce of him that cryeth in the wildernesse, Prepare yee the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a high way for our God.

⁵¶ Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord:

⁵¶ ^*Beholde, I will send you Eliiah the Prophet, before the comming of the great and dreadfull day of the LORD.

²As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

²⁶But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet.
