Matthew 27:26–31

⁵But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

¹THERE was a certain man in Cæsarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,

²⁰And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him.

¹⁶And the souldiers led him away into the hall, called Pretorium, and they call together the whole band.

¹⁷And they clothed him with purple, and platted a crowne of thornes, and put it about his head,

¹⁸And beganne to salute him, Haile King of the Iewes.

¹⁹And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit vpon him, and bowing their knees, worshipped him.

²⁰And when they had mocked him, they tooke off the purple from him, and put his owne clothes on him, and led him out to crucifie him.

¹AND when it was determined that we should sail into Italy, they delivered Paul and certain other prisoners unto one named Julius, a centurion of Augustus’ band.

³Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons.

⁸¶ When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he was the more afraid;

⁵Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the man!

¹⁵But in mine adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: yea, the abjects gathered themselves together against me, and I knew it not; they did tear me, and ceased not:

¹⁶With hypocritical mockers in feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth.
