Proverbs 13:2–3

¹⁴A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompence of a man’s hands shall be rendered unto him.

^14*A man shall bee satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth, and the recompence of a mans hands shall bee rendred vnto him.

²⁰A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.

^20*A mans belly shall be satisfied with the fruite of his mouth; and with the increase of his lippes shall he be filled.

¹¹The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.

³¹Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

¹¹Let not an evil speaker be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him.

^11†Let not an euill speaker bee established in the earth: euill shall hunt the violent man to ouerthrow him.

¹⁷For the violence of Lebanon shall cover thee, and the spoil of beasts, which made them afraid, because of men’s blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.

⁸Because thou hast spoiled many nations, all the remnant of the people shall spoil thee; because of men’s blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.

¹¹If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:

¹²Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit:

¹³We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:

¹¹If they say, Come with vs, let vs lay wait for blood, let vs lurke priuily for the innocent without cause:

¹²Let vs swallow them vp aliue, as the graue, and whole, as those that goe downe into the pit:

¹³Wee shall finde all precious substance, wee shall fill our houses with spoile:

¹⁷For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.

⁸For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and he poureth out of the same: but the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them.

²⁷Therefore thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Drink ye, and be drunken, and spue, and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you.

²⁸And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup at thine hand to drink, then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Ye shall certainly drink.

²⁹For, lo, I begin to bring evil on the city which is called by my name, and should ye be utterly unpunished? Ye shall not be unpunished: for I will call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, saith the Lord of hosts.

³⁰Therefore prophesy thou against them all these words, and say unto them, The Lord shall roar from on high, and utter his voice from his holy habitation; he shall mightily roar upon his habitation; he shall give a shout, as they that tread the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth.

³¹A noise shall come even to the ends of the earth; for the Lord hath a controversy with the nations, he will plead with all flesh; he will give them that are wicked to the sword, saith the Lord.

²⁷Therefore thou shalt say vnto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Drinke ye and bee drunken, and spue and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I wil send among you.

^29*†For loe, I begin to bring euill on the citie, which is called by my name, and should yee be vtterly vnpunished? ye shall not be vnpunished: for I will cal for a sword vpon all the inhabitants of the earth, saith the LORD of hosts.

^30*Therefore prophecie thou against them all these wordes, and say vnto them, The LORD shall roare from an high, and vtter his voice from his holy habitation, he shall mightily roare vpon his habitation, hee shall giue a shout, as they that treade the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth.

³¹A noise shall come euen to the ends of the earth; for the LORD hath a controuersie with the nations: hee will pleade with all flesh, he will giue them that are wicked to the sword, saith the LORD.

⁶For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy.

¹⁸And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives.

²³Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.

²¹Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

⁷A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.

²For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

³Behold, we put bits in the horses’ mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.

⁴Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth.

⁵Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!

⁶And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

⁷For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:

⁸But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

⁹Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.

¹⁰Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

¹¹Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?

¹²Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.

²For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

³Behold, we put bittes in the horses mouthes, that they may obey vs, and we turne about their whole body.

¹I SAID, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.

¹¶ I sayd, I will take heede to my waies, that I sinne not with my tongue: I will keepe my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.

²⁶If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.

²⁶If any man among you seeme to be religious, & bridleth not his tongue, but deceiueth his owne heart, this mans religion is vaine.

¹⁹In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.

¹⁹In the multitude of words there wanteth not sinne: but he that refraineth his lippes, is wise.

¹⁹He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips.

^19*‖He that goeth about as a tale-bearer, reueileth secrets; therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lippes.

¹³The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: but the just shall come out of trouble.
