Proverbs 14:12–13

²⁵There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

¹³¶ Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

¹⁴Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

¹⁵The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.

³For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.

²⁴¶ Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.

²¹What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.

¹²There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.

²²But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

⁶Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.

²I said of laughter, It is mad: and of mirth, What doeth it?

⁹Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

⁹¶ Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.

¹⁰And whatsoever mine eyes desired I kept not from them, I withheld not my heart from any joy; for my heart rejoiced in all my labour: and this was my portion of all my labour.

¹¹Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun.

⁵It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools.

⁶For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so is the laughter of the fool: this also is vanity.

²⁵But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

⁴But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword.

⁷How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.

⁸Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her.
