Psalms 18:18–19

¹⁰¶ For thy violence against thy brother Jacob shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.

¹¹In the day that thou stoodest on the other side, in the day that the strangers carried away captive his forces, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even thou wast as one of them.

¹²But thou shouldest not have looked on the day of thy brother in the day that he became a stranger; neither shouldest thou have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither shouldest thou have spoken proudly in the day of distress.

¹³Thou shouldest not have entered into the gate of my people in the day of their calamity; yea, thou shouldest not have looked on their affliction in the day of their calamity, nor have laid hands on their substance in the day of their calamity;

¹⁴Neither shouldest thou have stood in the crossway, to cut off those of his that did escape; neither shouldest thou have delivered up those of his that did remain in the day of distress.

¹³Thou shouldest not haue entred into the gate of my people in the day of their calamitie: yea, thou shouldest not haue looked on their affliction in the day of their calamitie, nor haue laid hands on their ^‖substance in the day of their calamitie.

³⁵To me belongeth vengeance, and recompence; their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste.

⁶And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.

¹⁹They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the Lord was my stay.

¹GOD is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

²Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;

⁸And hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy: thou hast set my feet in a large room.

¹⁶Even so would he have removed thee out of the strait into a broad place, where there is no straitness; and that which should be set on thy table should be full of fatness.

²¹The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness: according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.

²²For I have kept the ways of the Lord, and have not wickedly departed from my God.

²³For all his judgments were before me: and as for his statutes, I did not depart from them.

²⁴I was also upright before him, and have kept myself from mine iniquity.

²⁵Therefore the Lord hath recompensed me according to my righteousness; according to my cleanness in his eye sight.

²⁶With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful, and with the upright man thou wilt shew thyself upright.

²⁷With the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure; and with the froward thou wilt shew thyself unsavoury.

¹⁸He deliuered me from my strong enemy, and from them that hated mee: for they were too strong for me.

¹⁹They preuented me in the day of my calamitie: but the LORD was my stay.

²⁰Hee brought me forth also into a large place: he deliuered me, because hee delighted in me.

²¹The LORD rewarded mee according to my righteousnesse: according to the cleannesse of my hands, hath hee recompensed me.

²²For I haue kept the wayes of the LORD, and haue not wickedly departed from my God.

²³For all his iudgements were before me: and as for his Statutes, I did not depart from them.

²⁴I was also vpright ^†before him: and haue kept my selfe from mine iniquitie.

²⁵Therefore the LORD hath recompensed me, according to my righteousnesse: according to my cleannesse ^†in his eye sight.

²⁶With the merciful thou wilt shew thy selfe mercifull, and with the vpright man thou wilt shew thy selfe vpright.

²³The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.

⁹Blessed be the Lord thy God, which delighted in thee, to set thee on the throne of Israel: because the Lord loved Israel for ever, therefore made he thee king, to do judgment and justice.
