Psalms 56:1–2

⁴And the princes of the Philistines were wroth with him; and the princes of the Philistines said unto him, Make this fellow return, that he may go again to his place which thou hast appointed him, and let him not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he be an adversary to us: for wherewith should he reconcile himself unto his master? should it not be with the heads of these men?

¹PRESERVE me, O God: for in thee do I put my trust.

¹¶ Preserue me, O God: for in thee doe I put my trust.

⁹Have mercy upon me, O Lord, for I am in trouble: mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly.

⁹Haue mercy vpon me, O LORD, for I am in trouble; mine eie is consumed with griefe, yea my soule and my belly.

¹DELIVER me from mine enemies, O my God: defend me from them that rise up against me.

¹¶ Deliuer me from mine enemies, O my God: defend mee from them that rise vp against me.

¹³But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O Lord, in an acceptable time: O God, in the multitude of thy mercy hear me, in the truth of thy salvation.

¹⁴Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink: let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters.

¹⁵Let not the waterflood overflow me, neither let the deep swallow me up, and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me.

¹⁶Hear me, O Lord; for thy lovingkindness is good: turn unto me according to the multitude of thy tender mercies.

¹³But as for mee, my prayer is vnto thee, O LORD, in an acceptable time: O God, in the multitude of thy mercie heare me, in the trueth of thy saluation.

¹⁴Deliuer me out of the mire, and let me not sinke: let me bee deliuered from them that hate me, and out of the deepe waters.

¹⁵Let not the water flood ouerflow me, neither let the deepe swallow mee vp, and let not the pit shut her mouth vpon me.

¹⁶Heare me, O LORD, for thy louing kindnesse is good: turne vnto mee according to the multitude of thy tender mercies.

⁵⁴So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

¹¹And the servants of Achish said unto him, Is not this David the king of the land? did they not sing one to another of him in dances, saying, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands?

¹²And David laid up these words in his heart, and was sore afraid of Achish the king of Gath.

¹³And he changed his behaviour before them, and feigned himself mad in their hands, and scrabbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down upon his beard.

¹⁴Then said Achish unto his servants, Lo, ye see the man is mad: wherefore then have ye brought him to me?

¹⁵Have I need of mad men, that ye have brought this fellow to play the mad man in my presence? shall this fellow come into my house?

¹¹And the seruants of Achish sayd vnto him, Is not this Dauid the king of the land? Did they not sing one to another of him in daunces, saying, ^*Saul hath slaine his thousands, and Dauid his ten thousands?

¹²And Dauid layd vp these wordes in his heart, and was sore afraid of Achish the king of Gath.

¹³And he changed his behauiour before them, and fained himselfe mad in their hands, and ^‖scrabled on the doores of the gate, and let his spittle fall downe vpon his beard.

¹⁴Then saide Achish vnto his seruants, Loe, you see the man ^‖is mad: wherefore then haue yee brought him to mee?

¹⁵Haue I need of mad-men, that ye haue brought this fellow to play the mad-man in my presence? Shall this fellow come into my house?

¹²And of thy mercy cut off mine enemies, and destroy all them that afflict my soul: for I am thy servant.

²When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.

¹O GOD, thou hast cast us off, thou hast scattered us, thou hast been displeased; O turn thyself to us again.

⁸Israel is swallowed up: now shall they be among the Gentiles as a vessel wherein is no pleasure.

²The Lord hath swallowed up all the habitations of Jacob, and hath not pitied: he hath thrown down in his wrath the strong holds of the daughter of Judah; he hath brought them down to the ground: he hath polluted the kingdom and the princes thereof.

⁵The Lord was as an enemy: he hath swallowed up Israel, he hath swallowed up all her palaces: he hath destroyed his strong holds, and hath increased in the daughter of Judah mourning and lamentation.

¹²Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit:

³Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us:

¹⁰To him that smote Egypt in their firstborn: for his mercy endureth for ever:

⁹Thou shalt make them as a fiery oven in the time of thine anger: the Lord shall swallow them up in his wrath, and the fire shall devour them.

²⁵Let them not say in their hearts, Ah, so would we have it: let them not say, We have swallowed him up.

¹BE merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast.

²I will cry unto God most high; unto God that performeth all things for me.

³He shall send from heaven, and save me from the reproach of him that would swallow me up. Selah. God shall send forth his mercy and his truth.

¹¶ Be mercifull vnto mee, O God, be merciful vnto me, for my soule trusteth in thee: yea in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, vntill these calamities bee ouerpast.

²I will crie vnto God most high: vnto God that perfourmeth all things for mee.

^3‖Hee shall send from heauen, and saue me from the reproch of him, that would swallow me vp; Selah. God shall send forth his mercy and his trueth.

¹DO ye indeed speak righteousness, O congregation? do ye judge uprightly, O ye sons of men?

¹¶ Doe yee indeed speake righteousnesse, O congregation? doe ye iudge vprightly, O ye sonnes of men?

¹⁶All thine enemies have opened their mouth against thee: they hiss and gnash the teeth: they say, We have swallowed her up: certainly this is the day that we looked for; we have found, we have seen it.

¹⁶All thine enemies haue opened their mouth against thee: they hisse and gnash the teeth: they say, We haue swallowed her vp: certainly this is the day that we looked for: we haue found, we haue seene it.

¹⁷The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, and covered the company of Abiram.

¹⁰The God of my mercy shall prevent me: God shall let me see my desire upon mine enemies.

¹⁰All nations compassed me about: but in the name of the Lord will I destroy them.

¹¹They compassed me about; yea, they compassed me about: but in the name of the Lord I will destroy them.

¹²They compassed me about like bees; they are quenched as the fire of thorns: for in the name of the Lord I will destroy them.

²⁵Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things?

²⁶The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ.

²⁷For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together,

¹⁸O thou king, the most high God gave Nebuchadnezzar thy father a kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honour:

¹⁵For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

¹LORD, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me.

¹PLEAD my cause, O Lord, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me.

¹¶ Plead my cause (O LORD) with them that striue with mee: fight against them that fight against me.

⁵He shall reward evil unto mine enemies: cut them off in thy truth.

²I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High.

¹HE that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

¹¶ ^†He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most high: shall abide vnder the shadow of the Almightie.

¹IT is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High:

¹¶ It is a good thing to giue thanks vnto the LORD, and to sing praises vnto thy Name, O most High:

⁸But thou, Lord, art most high for evermore.

⁸¶ But thou, LORD, art most high for euermore.

⁴The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea.

⁴The LORD on high is mightier then the noise of many waters, yea then the mightie waues of the Sea.

¹⁴For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.
