¶ And if a man smite his seruant, or his mayd, with a rod, and hee die vnder his hand, hee shall bee surely punished:

Notwithstanding, if he continue a day or two, hee shall not be punished, for he is his money.

¶ If men striue, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischiefe follow, he shalbe surely punished, according as the womans husband will lay vpon him, and hee shall pay as the Iudges determine.

And after all that is come vpon vs, for our euill deeds, and for our great trespasse, seeing that thou, our God, hast punished vs lesse, then our iniquities deserue, and hast giuen vs such deliuerance as this:

This also were an iniquitie to be punished by the Iudge: For I should haue denied the God that is aboue.

When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is instructed, he receiueth knowledge.
