Ecclesiastes 12:9–11

³²And he spake three thousand proverbs: and his songs were a thousand and five.

³²And he spake three thousand prouerbes: and his songs were a thousand and fiue.

¹THE proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;

¹¶ The Prouerbes of Solomon the sonne of Dauid, King of Israel,

¹THESE are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.

¹¶ These are also Prouerbes of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Iudah copied out.

⁸Happy are thy men, happy are these thy servants, which stand continually before thee, and that hear thy wisdom.

¹THE proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.

¹¶ ^*The Prouerbes of Solomon: A wise sonne maketh a glad father: but a foolish sonne is the heauinesse of his mother.

¹²¶ Then spake Solomon, The Lord said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.

¹³I have surely built thee an house to dwell in, a settled place for thee to abide in for ever.

¹⁴And the king turned his face about, and blessed all the congregation of Israel: (and all the congregation of Israel stood;)

¹⁵And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, which spake with his mouth unto David my father, and hath with his hand fulfilled it, saying,

¹⁶Since the day that I brought forth my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build an house, that my name might be therein; but I chose David to be over my people Israel.

¹⁷And it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the Lord God of Israel.

¹⁸And the Lord said unto David my father, Whereas it was in thine heart to build an house unto my name, thou didst well that it was in thine heart.

¹⁹Nevertheless thou shalt not build the house; but thy son that shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house unto my name.

²⁰And the Lord hath performed his word that he spake, and I am risen up in the room of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as the Lord promised, and have built an house for the name of the Lord God of Israel.

²¹And I have set there a place for the ark, wherein is the covenant of the Lord, which he made with our fathers, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.

¹²¶ Then spake Solomon; The LORD ^*said that hee would dwell in the thicke darkenesse.

¹³I haue surely built thee an house to dwel in, a setled place for thee to abide in for euer.

¹⁴And the King turned his face about, and blessed all the Congregation of Israel: (and all the Congregation of Israel stood.)

¹⁵And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which spake with his mouth vnto Dauid my father, and hath with his hand fulfilled it, saying;

¹⁶Since the day that I brought foorth my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no citie out of all the tribes of Israel to build an house that my Name might be therein; but I chose ^*Dauid to be ouer my people Israel.

¹⁷And it was in the heart of Dauid my father, to builde an house for the Name of the LORD God of Israel.

¹⁸And the LORD sayd vnto Dauid my father, Whereas it was in thine heart to build an house vnto my Name, thou diddest well that it was in thine heart.

¹⁹Neuerthelesse, thou shalt not build the house, but thy sonne that shall come foorth out of thy loynes, hee shall build the house vnto my Name.

²⁰And the LORD hath perfourmed his word that he spake, and I am risen vp in the roume of Dauid my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and haue built an House for the Name of the LORD God of Israel.

²¹And I haue set there a place for the Arke, wherein is the Couenant of the LORD, which he made with our fathers, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.

⁵For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;

¹⁵This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

²¹The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.

²²Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it: but the instruction of fools is folly.

²³The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips.

²⁴Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

^22*Understanding is a well-spring of life vnto him that hath it: but the instruction of fooles is folly.

^23†The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lippes.

²To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;

³To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;

⁴To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.

⁵A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

⁶To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.

¹¶ The Prouerbes of Solomon the sonne of Dauid, King of Israel,

²To knowe wisedome and instruction, to perceiue the words of vnderstanding,

³To receiue the instruction of wisdome, iustice, and iudgement & ^†equitie,

⁴To giue subtiltie to the simple, to the yong man knowledge and ^‖discretion.

⁵A wise man wil heare, and wil increase learning: and a man of vnderstanding shall attaine vnto wise counsels:

⁶To vnderstand a prouerbe, and ^‖the interpretation; the wordes of the wise, and their darke sayings.

²⁶The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord: but the words of the pure are pleasant words.

¹⁷Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.

¹⁸For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips.

¹⁹That thy trust may be in the Lord, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.

²⁰Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,

²¹That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?

¹⁷Bow downe thine eare, and heare the words of the wise, and apply thine heart vnto my knowledge.

^18†For it is a pleasant thing, if thou keepe them within thee; they shall withall be fitted in thy lippes.

^19‖That thy trust may bee in the LORD, I haue made knowen to thee this day, euen to thee.

¹¹A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

¹²As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.

⁶Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things.

⁷For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.

⁸All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them.

⁹They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge.

¹⁰Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.

⁶Heare, for I will speake of excellent things: and the opening of my lippes shalbe right things.

^7†For my mouth shall speake truth, and wickednesse is an abomination to my lippes.

^8†All the words of my mouth are in righteousnes, there is nothing froward or peruerse in them.

¹¹Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.

¹¹Uerely, verely I say vnto thee, We speake that we doe know, and testifie that wee haue seene; and yee receiue not our witnesse.

¹FORASMUCH as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us,

²Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word;

³It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,

⁴That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed.

¹¶ Forasmuch as many haue taken in hande to set foorth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely beleeued among vs,

²Euen as they deliuered them vnto vs, which from the beginning were eye-witnesses, & ministers of the word:

³It seemed good to me also, hauing had perfect vnderstanding of things from the very first, to write vnto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,

⁴That thou mightest know the certainetie of those things wherein thou hast bene instructed.

²³A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!

¹²For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

²⁹Is not my word like as a fire? saith the Lord; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?

²³And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even my servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd.

¹¹He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.

⁷¶ But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

¹THE Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

¹GIVE ear, O Shepherd of Israel, thou that leadest Joseph like a flock; thou that dwellest between the cherubims, shine forth.

⁴And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.

⁸And now for a little space grace hath been shewed from the Lord our God, to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us a nail in his holy place, that our God may lighten our eyes, and give us a little reviving in our bondage.

²⁴But his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the mighty God of Jacob; (from thence is the shepherd, the stone of Israel:)
