Luke 22:63–64

²²And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?

²³Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:

²Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

⁷Thus saith the Lord, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, to him whom man despiseth, to him whom the nation abhorreth, to a servant of rulers, Kings shall see and arise, princes also shall worship, because of the Lord that is faithful, and the Holy One of Israel, and he shall choose thee.

⁶I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting.

⁷¶ For the Lord God will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.

¹⁴As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men:

³He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

⁹He teareth me in his wrath, who hateth me: he gnasheth upon me with his teeth; mine enemy sharpeneth his eyes upon me.

¹⁰They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves together against me.

¹¹Because he hath loosed my cord, and afflicted me, they have also let loose the bridle before me.

¹²Upon my right hand rise the youth; they push away my feet, and they raise up against me the ways of their destruction.

¹³They mar my path, they set forward my calamity, they have no helper.

¹⁴They came upon me as a wide breaking in of waters: in the desolation they rolled themselves upon me.

¹⁰They abhorre me, they flee farre from me, ^†and spare not to spit in my face.

⁵⁵And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none.

⁵⁶For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.

⁵⁷And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying,

⁵⁸We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.

⁵⁹But neither so did their witness agree together.

⁶⁰And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?

⁶¹But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?

⁶²And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

⁶³Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses?

⁶⁴Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.

⁶⁵And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.

^55*And the chiefe Priests, and all the counsell sought for witnesse against Iesus, to put him to death, & found none.

⁵⁶For many bare false witnesse against him, but their witnesse agreed not together.

⁵⁷And there arose certaine, and bare false witnesse against him, saying,

⁵⁸We heard him say, I will destroy this Temple that is made with hands, and within three dayes I will build another made without hands.

⁵⁹But neither so did their witnesse agree together.

⁶⁰And the high Priest stood vp in the mids, and asked Iesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? What is it which these witnesse against thee?

⁶¹But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Againe, the high Priest asked him, and said vnto him, Art thou the Christ, the sonne of the Blessed?

⁶²And Iesus said, I am: ^*and yee shall see the sonne of man sitting on the right hand of power, and comming in the clouds of heauen.

⁶³Then the high Priest rent his clothes, and saith, What neede we any further witnesses?

⁶⁴Yee haue heard the blasphemy: what thinke yee? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.

⁶⁵And some beganne to spit on him, and to couer his face, and to buffet him, and to say vnto him, Prophecie: And the seruants did stricke him with the palmes of their hands.

¹⁶And the soldiers led him away into the hall, called Prætorium; and they call together the whole band.

¹⁷And they clothed him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his head,

¹⁸And began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews!

¹⁹And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him.

²⁰And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him.

¹⁶And the souldiers led him away into the hall, called Pretorium, and they call together the whole band.

¹⁷And they clothed him with purple, and platted a crowne of thornes, and put it about his head,

¹⁸And beganne to salute him, Haile King of the Iewes.

¹⁹And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit vpon him, and bowing their knees, worshipped him.

²⁰And when they had mocked him, they tooke off the purple from him, and put his owne clothes on him, and led him out to crucifie him.

²⁷And with him they crucify two thieves; the one on his right hand, and the other on his left.

²⁸And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors.

²⁹And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ah, thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days,

³⁰Save thyself, and come down from the cross.

³¹Likewise also the chief priests mocking said among themselves with the scribes, He saved others; himself he cannot save.

³²Let Christ the King of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified with him reviled him.

²⁷And with him they crucifie two theeues, the one on his right hand, and the other on his left.

³⁰Saue thy selfe, and come downe from the Crosse.

³¹Likewise also the chiefe Priests mocking, said among themselues with the Scribes, He saued others, himselfe he cannot saue.

³²Let Christ the King of Israel descend now from the Crosse, that we may see and beleeue: And they that were crucified with him, reuiled him.

⁶³But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.

⁶⁴Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

⁶⁵Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy.

⁶⁶What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death.

⁶⁷Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands,

⁶⁸Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?

⁶⁴Iesus saith vnto him, Thou hast saide: Neuerthelesse I say vnto you, ^*Hereafter shall yee see the Sonne of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heauen.

⁶⁵Then the high Priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemie: what further need haue wee of witnesses? Behold, now ye haue heard his blasphemie.

⁶⁶What thinke ye? They answered and said, He is guiltie of death.

³¹And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.

⁴³He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.

⁴²He saued others, himselfe he cannot saue: If he be the King of Israel, let him now come downe from the Crosse, and we will beleeue him.

^43*He trusted in God, let him deliuer him now if hee will haue him: for he said, I am the Sonne of God.

⁴⁴The thieues also which were crucified with him, cast y ^e same in his teeth.

¹NOW gather thyself in troops, O daughter of troops: he hath laid siege against us: they shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.

¹¶ Now gather thy selfe in troupes, O daughter of troupes: he hath laid siege against vs: they shal smite the Iudge of Israel with a rod vpon the cheeke.

¹³They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion.

^13†They gaped vpon me with their mouthes, as a rauening and a roaring Lyon.

⁶But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.

⁷All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,

¹⁵But in mine adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: yea, the abjects gathered themselves together against me, and I knew it not; they did tear me, and ceased not:

¹⁶With hypocritical mockers in feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth.

^15†But in mine aduersitie they reioyced, and gathered themselues together: yea, the abiects gathered themselues together against me, & I knew it not, they did teare me, and ceased not,

²⁵Let them not say in their hearts, Ah, so would we have it: let them not say, We have swallowed him up.

^25†Let them not say in their hearts, Ah, so would we haue it: let them not say, We haue swallowed him vp.

⁷Because for thy sake I have borne reproach; shame hath covered my face.

⁸I am become a stranger unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother’s children.

⁹For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me.

¹⁰When I wept, and chastened my soul with fasting, that was to my reproach.

¹¹I made sackcloth also my garment; and I became a proverb to them.

¹²They that sit in the gate speak against me; and I was the song of the drunkards.

⁷Because for thy sake I haue borne reproch: shame hath couered my face.

⁸I am become a stranger vnto my brethren, and an aliant vnto my mothers children.

^9**For the zeale of thine house hath eaten mee vp; and the reproches of them that reproched thee, are fallen vpon me.

¹⁰When I wept, and chastened my soule with fasting, that was to my reproch.

²¹¶ But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house.
