Luke 22:63–71

²²And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?

²³Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:

²Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

⁷Thus saith the Lord, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, to him whom man despiseth, to him whom the nation abhorreth, to a servant of rulers, Kings shall see and arise, princes also shall worship, because of the Lord that is faithful, and the Holy One of Israel, and he shall choose thee.

⁶I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting.

⁷¶ For the Lord God will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.

¹⁴As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men:

⁹He teareth me in his wrath, who hateth me: he gnasheth upon me with his teeth; mine enemy sharpeneth his eyes upon me.

⁵⁸We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.

⁵⁹But neither so did their witness agree together.

⁶⁰And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?

⁶¹But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?

⁶²And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

⁶³Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses?

⁶⁴Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.

⁶⁵And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.

^55*And the chiefe Priests, and all the counsell sought for witnesse against Iesus, to put him to death, & found none.

⁵⁶For many bare false witnesse against him, but their witnesse agreed not together.

⁵⁷And there arose certaine, and bare false witnesse against him, saying,

⁵⁸We heard him say, I will destroy this Temple that is made with hands, and within three dayes I will build another made without hands.

⁵⁹But neither so did their witnesse agree together.

⁶⁰And the high Priest stood vp in the mids, and asked Iesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? What is it which these witnesse against thee?

⁶¹But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Againe, the high Priest asked him, and said vnto him, Art thou the Christ, the sonne of the Blessed?

⁶²And Iesus said, I am: ^*and yee shall see the sonne of man sitting on the right hand of power, and comming in the clouds of heauen.

⁶³Then the high Priest rent his clothes, and saith, What neede we any further witnesses?

⁶⁴Yee haue heard the blasphemy: what thinke yee? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.

⁶⁵And some beganne to spit on him, and to couer his face, and to buffet him, and to say vnto him, Prophecie: And the seruants did stricke him with the palmes of their hands.

¹⁶And the soldiers led him away into the hall, called Prætorium; and they call together the whole band.

¹⁷And they clothed him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his head,

¹⁸And began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews!

¹⁹And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him.

²⁰And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him.

¹⁶And the souldiers led him away into the hall, called Pretorium, and they call together the whole band.

¹⁷And they clothed him with purple, and platted a crowne of thornes, and put it about his head,

¹⁸And beganne to salute him, Haile King of the Iewes.

¹⁹And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit vpon him, and bowing their knees, worshipped him.

²⁰And when they had mocked him, they tooke off the purple from him, and put his owne clothes on him, and led him out to crucifie him.

²⁷And with him they crucify two thieves; the one on his right hand, and the other on his left.

²⁸And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors.

²⁹And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ah, thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days,

³⁰Save thyself, and come down from the cross.

³¹Likewise also the chief priests mocking said among themselves with the scribes, He saved others; himself he cannot save.

³²Let Christ the King of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified with him reviled him.

²⁷And with him they crucifie two theeues, the one on his right hand, and the other on his left.

²⁸And the Scripture was fulfilled, which sayeth, ^*And hee was numbred with the transgressours.

³¹Likewise also the chiefe Priests mocking, said among themselues with the Scribes, He saued others, himselfe he cannot saue.

³²Let Christ the King of Israel descend now from the Crosse, that we may see and beleeue: And they that were crucified with him, reuiled him.

⁴²He saued others, himselfe he cannot saue: If he be the King of Israel, let him now come downe from the Crosse, and we will beleeue him.

^43*He trusted in God, let him deliuer him now if hee will haue him: for he said, I am the Sonne of God.

⁴⁴The thieues also which were crucified with him, cast y ^e same in his teeth.

¹NOW gather thyself in troops, O daughter of troops: he hath laid siege against us: they shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.

¹³They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion.

⁶But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.

⁷All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,

²⁵Let them not say in their hearts, Ah, so would we have it: let them not say, We have swallowed him up.

⁷Because for thy sake I have borne reproach; shame hath covered my face.

⁸I am become a stranger unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother’s children.

⁹For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me.

¹⁰When I wept, and chastened my soul with fasting, that was to my reproach.

¹¹I made sackcloth also my garment; and I became a proverb to them.

¹²They that sit in the gate speak against me; and I was the song of the drunkards.

³¹¶ Wherefore I say vnto you, ^*All maner of sinne and blasphemie shall be forgiuen vnto men: but the blasphemie against the holy Ghost, shall not bee forgiuen vnto men.

³²And whosoeuer speaketh a word against the sonne of man, it shall be forgiuen him: but whosoeuer speaketh against the holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiuen him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

¹AND straightway in the morning the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate.

¹WHEN the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:

²⁷For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together,

²⁸For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done.

^25*Who by the mouth of thy seruant Dauid hast saide, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vaine things?

²⁶The Kings of the earth stood vp, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, & against his Christ.

²⁷For of a trueth against thy holy child Iesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel were gathered together,

²⁸For to doe whatsoeuer thy hand and thy counsell determined before to be done.

²²But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

²²But I say vnto you, that whosoeuer is angry with his brother without a cause, shall be in danger of the Iudgement: and whosoeuer shall say to his brother, Racha, shal be in danger of the counsell: but whosoeuer shall say, Thou foole, shalbe in danger of hell fire.

²⁸¶ Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover.

¹WHY do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?

²The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying,

³Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

²⁴Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly.

²⁵Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me.

²⁶But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.

²⁴Then came the Iewes round about him, and said vnto him, How long doest thou ^‖make vs to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell vs plainely.

²⁵Iesus answered them, I told you, and ye beleeued not: the workes that I doe in my Fathers name, they beare witnesse of me.

²⁶But ye beleeue not, because ye are not of my sheepe, as I said vnto you.

³⁷¶ But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:

³⁸That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?

³⁹Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again,

⁴⁰He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.

⁴¹These things said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake of him.

⁴²¶ Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:

⁴³For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

³⁷¶ But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they beleeued not on him:

³⁸That the saying of Esaias the Prophet might be fulfilled, which hee spake, ^*Lord, who hath beleeued our report? and to whom hath the arme of the Lord beene reuealed?

³⁹Therefore they could not beleeue, because that Esaias said againe,

⁴⁵Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.

⁴⁶For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me.

⁴⁷But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

³⁹¶ Search the Scriptures, for in them ye thinke ye haue eternall life, and they are they which testifie of me.

⁴²But I know you, that ye haue not the loue of God in you.

⁴³I am come in my Fathers name, and ye receiue me not: if another shall come in his owne Name, him ye will receiue.

^44*How can ye beleeue, which receiue honour one of another, & seeke not the honour that commeth from God onely?

⁴⁵Doe not thinke that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, euen Moses, in whom ye trust?

⁴⁶For had ye beleeued Moses, ye would haue beleeued me: ^*for he wrote of me.

⁴⁷But if ye beleeue not his writings, how shall ye beleeue my words?

⁴³Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.

⁴⁴Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

⁴⁵And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.

⁴³Why doe yee not vnderstand my speech? euen because yee cannot heare my word.

^44*Ye are of your father the deuill, and the lusts of your father ye will doe: hee was a murtherer from the beginning, and abode not in the trueth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his owne: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

⁶⁶¶ And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest:

⁶¹But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Againe, the high Priest asked him, and said vnto him, Art thou the Christ, the sonne of the Blessed?

⁶²And Iesus said, I am: ^*and yee shall see the sonne of man sitting on the right hand of power, and comming in the clouds of heauen.

⁶³Then the high Priest rent his clothes, and saith, What neede we any further witnesses?

⁶⁴Yee haue heard the blasphemy: what thinke yee? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.

³And hee answered, and said vnto them, I will also aske you one thing, and answere me.

⁴The Baptisme of Iohn, was it from heauen, or of men?

¹NOW of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;

¹AND he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.
