James 1:13–14

¹²Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

¹²¶ Woe to him that buildeth a town with blood, and stablisheth a city by iniquity!

¹³Behold, is it not of the Lord of hosts that the people shall labour in the very fire, and the people shall weary themselves for very vanity?

^13‖Behold, is it not of the LORD of hostes, that the people shall labour in the very fire, and the people shal wearie themselues for very vanitie?

²My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;

¹⁹Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will?

²⁰Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?

¹²And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.

¹²And the man said, The woman whom thou gauest to be with mee, shee gaue me of the tree, and I did eate.

¹⁷¶ O Lord, why hast thou made us to err from thy ways, and hardened our heart from thy fear? Return for thy servants’ sake, the tribes of thine inheritance.

¹⁷¶ O LORD, why hast thou made vs to erre from thy wayes? and hardened our heart from thy feare? Returne for thy seruants sake, the tribes of thine inheritance.

²¹For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,

²²Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:

^22*Thefts, couetousnesse, wickednesse, deceit, lasciuiousnesse, an euill eye, blasphemie, pride, foolishnesse:

²²That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

²²That yee put off concerning the former conuersation, the olde man, which is corrupt according to the deceitfull lusts:

¹⁸But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.

¹⁸But those things which proceed out of the mouth, come forth from the heart, and they defile the man.

¹³But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

¹³But exhort one another dayly, while it is called To day, least any of you be hardned through the deceitfulnesse of sinne.

²³¶ Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

¹³Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.

¹³Was that then which is good, made death vnto me? God forbid. But sinne, that it might appeare sinne, working death in mee by that which is good: that sinne by the Commaundement might become exceeding sinfull.

¹FROM whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?

²Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

¹¶ From whence come warres and ^‖fightings among you? come they not hence, euen of your ^‖lusts, that warre in your members?

²Ye lust, and haue not: yee kill, and desire to haue, and cannot obtaine: yee fight and warre, yet yee haue not, because ye aske not.

²⁸But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

²⁸But I say vnto you, That whosoeuer looketh on a woman to lust after her, hath committed adulterie with her already in his heart.

²⁰He feedeth on ashes: a deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?

⁵¶ And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

⁵¶ And God saw, that the wickednes of man was great in the earth, and that ^‖euery imagination of the thoughts of his ^*heart was onely euill ^†continually.

¹¹For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.

¹¹For sinne taking occasion by the commandement, deceiued me, and by it slew me.

²⁷And my heart hath been secretly enticed, or my mouth hath kissed my hand:

⁹If mine heart have been deceived by a woman, or if I have laid wait at my neighbour’s door;

⁹If mine heart haue bene deceiued by a woman, or if I haue layde wait at my neighbours doore:

²¶ And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king’s house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon.

³And David sent and inquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bath-sheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?

²¶ And it came to passe in an euening tide, that Dauid arose from off his bed, and walked vpon the roofe of the kings house: and from the roofe he saw a woman washing her selfe; and the woman was very beautifull to looke vpon.

³And Dauid sent and enquired after the woman: and one said, Is not this Bath-sheba the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?

²¹When I saw among the spoils a goodly Babylonish garment, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it.

²²¶ So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran unto the tent; and, behold, it was hid in his tent, and the silver under it.

²³And they took them out of the midst of the tent, and brought them unto Joshua, and unto all the children of Israel, and laid them out before the Lord.

²⁴And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the garment, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had: and they brought them unto the valley of Achor.

²²¶ So Ioshua sent messengers, and they ran vnto the tent, and behold, it was hid in his tent, and the siluer vnder it.

²³And they tooke them out of the midst of the tent, and brought them vnto Ioshua, and vnto all the children of Israel, and ^†laid them out before the LORD.

²⁴And Ioshua and all Israel with him tooke Achan the sonne of Zerah, and the siluer, and the garment, and the wedge of golde, and his sonnes, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his asses, and his sheepe, and his tent, and all that he had: and they brought them vnto the valley of Achor.

²And Ahab spake unto Naboth, saying, Give me thy vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs, because it is near unto my house: and I will give thee for it a better vineyard than it; or, if it seem good to thee, I will give thee the worth of it in money.

³And Naboth said to Ahab, The Lord forbid it me, that I should give the inheritance of my fathers unto thee.

⁴And Ahab came into his house heavy and displeased because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him: for he had said, I will not give thee the inheritance of my fathers. And he laid him down upon his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.

²And Ahab spake vnto Naboth, saying, Giue me thy vineyard, that I may haue it for a garden of herbes, because it is neere vnto my house, and I will giue thee for it a better vineyard then it: or if it ^†seeme good to thee, I will giue thee the worth of it in money.

³And Naboth said to Ahab, The LORD forbid it mee, that I should giue the inheritance of my fathers vnto thee.

⁴And Ahab came into his house, heauie, and displeased, because of the word which Naboth the Iezreelite had spoken to him: for he had saide, I will not giue thee the inheritance of my fathers: and he laid him downe vpon his bed, and turned away his face, and would eate no bread.

²⁰These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.

²⁰These are the things which defile a man: But to eate with vnwashen hands, defileth not a man.

²¹And the Lord smelled a sweet savour; and the Lord said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.

²¹And the LORD smelled a ^†sweete sauour, and the LORD said in his heart, I will not againe curse the ground any more for mans sake; for the ^*imagination of mans heart is euil from his youth: neither will I againe smite any more euery thing liuing, as I haue done.

⁹¶ O Israel, thou hast destroyed thyself; but in me is thine help.

⁹¶ ^†O Israel, thou hast destroied thy selfe, but in me is thine helpe.
